Healthcare Disparities in Atopic Dermatitis
in Latin America
Atopic dermatitis (AD) represents a significant burden to underserved communities across Latin America (LA). LA is imbued with systemic disparities which lead to inadequate dermatologic care in the Region. Despite the existing gap in resources and care standards to treat AD in LA, there is a paucity in research addressing the issue. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the implementation of a project to understand and address the healthcare disparities surrounding AD across Latin American countries.
As a result, the Americas Health Foundation (AHF), convened a virtual meeting of six Latin American medical experts on AD, including specialists in dermatology, immunology, and allergy to develop a manuscript containing both a comprehensive assessment of the healthcare disparities in the Region and recommendations in order to overcome inequalities and increase access to improved treatment, monitoring, and maintenance of the disease. The manuscript entitled "Healthcare Disparities in Atopic Dermatitis in Latin America" has been published at Dermatology and Therapy. The full article is available here.
