Fellow in Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at San Martino Hospital, Genova, Italy (1986 to 1988) and Visiting Professor at the Multiple Myeloma Research Center at the University of Arkansas, USA (2000). Executive MBA in Health from COPPEAD- UFRJ in 1997/98.
He is currently Professor of Hematology at the Department of Medical Clinic at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Permanent Professor of the Graduate Program in Medical Clinic at UFRJ.

He was responsible for structuring the Bone Marrow Transplant Programs at the Clementino Fraga Filho University Hospital and at the Unimed Rio Hospital.
In the private sector he acts as Coordinator of Hematology at the Americas Integrated Oncology Center in Rio de Janeiro and Clinical Researcher at Instituto COI de Ensino e Pesquisa
