Ana Rita Gonzalez holds a Doctorate in Science in health policy and management fro Johns Hopkins University, with a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Puerto Rico, and graduate studies in health planning from Cornell University. In 2009 the national Board of Public Health Examiners certified her in Public Health.- Edit
Prior to the opening of Policy Wisdom, Dr. Gonzalez created and led the Global Public Health Policy Group at Fleishman-Hillard. For Fleishman, she developed the e7 methodology for policy influencing and her work in the public health and health policy arena includes a broad variety of clients and projects. Her work for Merck includes health policy work ex-US for Gardasil and Totateq. Policy work for Ezetrol in the EMEA region, for HIV’AIDS in Latin America. She has worked in public health projects for Pfizer conceptualizing, launching and developing the health literacy issue and for Bayer hemophilia and aspirin. Dr. Gonzalez has worked on supra national policy work for the World Hepatitis Alliance.
Dr. Gonzalez served for nine years as hospital and health systems advisor for the World Health Organization-Pan American Health Organization. During her time with WHO-PAHO she served in Barbados-covering the English –speaking regions of the Caribbean, Costa Rica and Peru. In her tenure with WHO-PAHO she was responsible for healthcare reform design, health policy planning and influencing, crisis management and disaster preparedness. She developed and lead policy, social marketing and health education programs for special populations in areas such as immunizations, family planning, diabetes and health related diseases, developmental pediatrics, AIDS, responsible use of health services and medical devices, breastfeeding, breast cancer awareness and high risk pregnancies. Before joining WHO-PAHO, Dr. Gonzalez worked in the hospital industry in Puerto Rico managing government as well as private hospitals, specializing in taking hospitals out of bankruptcy.
Dr. Gonzalez co-authored in 2007 Moments in Leadership: Case Studies in Public Leadership; she is also the author of numerous articles. She is a lecturer at George Washington University, Department of Health Policy and holds a courtesy faculty appointment at the Florida International University, Stempel School of Public Health.
