ONGOING WORK IN RARE DISEASES
As we gear up for these major events, AHF is currently leading other impactful projects aimed at addressing rare diseases:
Thyroid Eye Disease Patient Journey Mapping in Brazil:
AHF is conducting an in-depth analysis of the patient journey for those affected by Thyroid eye disease (TED) in Brazil. TED is a complex condition requiring a multidisciplinary approach, and our mapping aims to uncover key barriers and disparities that patients face in both private and public healthcare systems.
This project will provide actionable insights into systemic delays and discrepancies in care, helping us develop targeted interventions to improve access and quality of care for TED patients in the region.
Educational Initiative: Increasing Access to Genomic Medicine for Rare Diseases in Brazil
Building on themes discussed at the WHO/PAHO regional meeting, AHF has recently launched an educational initiative focused on operationalizing genomic medicine strategies for rare diseases in Latin America. This initiative will offer a platform for experts to discuss challenges, best practices, and policy recommendations for expanding genomic testing and treatment protocols.
Key topics include:
- Foundational infrastructure for genomic medicine
- Capacity building and human resource development
- Public engagement and clinician education
- Lessons from global initiatives
The goal is to ensure that the outcomes of this initiative are scalable and sustainable, promoting equitable access to genomic medicine across the region.
